The Iroquois
The Iroquois lived in present-day New York state.
The Iroquois tribe was made up of six smaller tribes: the Mohawks, Senecas, Oneidas, Onandagas, Cayugas, and the Tuscaroras.
The Iroquois used canoes when they had to travel across lakes or rivers, but would mainly walk to get to different places.
The men in the Iroquois tribes would hunt and fish for food. The women would plant corn, beans, and squash.
Some of the children would help the men hunt and fish.

"Iroquois" means "people of the longhouse". Because of the size of the houses, the Iroquois would stay in the same place all year round. Longhouses could be as big as 100 feet long and hold up to 60 people in 1 house.
